On Monday 24^th November, Bloxwich Academy had the exciting opportunity to welcome Performance in Education to perform and present “Hooked.”

Year 8 were given clear messages on the dangers of smoking and vaping and the peer pressure surrounding their choices. Pupils were educated on the chemical dangers and the impact this can have on individuals into adulthood. Pupils were also educated on the dangers of vaping and the risks they are taking and the marketing to appeal to children. Performance in Education discussed the statistics and the unknown risks of vaping. They were also educated on the risk of spiked vaped including THC and Spice.

Performance in Education commended our pupils on their engagement and questions they asked following the performance.

Well done to Year 8 for their engagement with the topic and showing an awareness of the importance of looking after our personal health.

Today we started a 6 week course with EMPWR- each week Paige will focus on something new. This week we have looked at sugar intake and the impact of a well balanced diet! Over the coming weeks we will be visiting her gym, building our own workouts and understanding the benefits of of exercise and building a business including different career options.

Bloxwich Academy pupils have been celebrating Anti Bullying Week with a range of activities. Led by Mr Morris and the Anti Bullying Committee, pupils have been learning about this years theme for Anti Bullying “Power for Good”.

Pupils have been completing form time activities, having an assembly, wearing odd socks each day and purchasing anti bullying wrist bands to show their support for Anti Bullying and the strategies to use “Power for Good.” Year 7 and 10 pupils were also able to watch a performance from Loudmouth about bullying and harassment.

To celebrate Odd Socks Day, Bloxwich staff and pupils have been wearing odd socks all week. It was fantastic to see so many varieties of socks and for people to celebrate the messages of kindness, unity and individuality. Well done to all.

On Monday and Friday, the Anti Bullying Committee sold cakes and raised £132.55 for our house charities.

Introducing our two new student librarians, Aurora (Year 11) and Corey (Year 10). Both work tirelessly promoting our library around school, as well as supporting, encouraging and welcoming all pupils into our library. Both are a credit to both our school and library and are fully deserving of their new roles. Well done, Aurora and Corey! 

Year 11 pupils had a fantastic time at the National School and College Leavers’ Festival at the NEC. More than 120 employers, universities, and training providers attended, showcasing apprenticeships, higher education, and employment options. Students were able to engage face-to-face with post-16 providers, gaining insights and inspiration for their future career decisions and goals.

Our Young Writers’ competition, ‘Stranger Sagas’ has launched. A maximum of 100 words, the tale can be any genre – mystery, suspense, funny, fantasy, futuristic – it just needs to be weird or wonderful. There is a £100 gift voucher from Young Writers for their winners, plus a fantastic opportunity to have their saga published. We will have a £50 Amazon gift voucher for the winning entry in school. There is also a reward for every student who enters. Our year 9 boys football team put on an impressive performance away to Smestow Academy on last Thursday winning 5-1. Two goals from Steven, two strikes from Billy and a goal from Saint (all year 9).

Every member of the team performed superbly, special mention to the defence of Ethan, Faye and Riley who were the solid foundation for the team to express themselves.
