Children in Need

Children in Need Alert! Pupils have been so generous today and our cake sale sold out in record time. Huge well done to Harry for the most football keep ups and some great hoops scored by Michael. Bloxwich Academy supports Children in Need as they fund thousands of charities and projects in every corner of the UK. They support young people to be and feel safer, support mental health and wellbeing, positive relationships and offer equal opportunities for children to flourish. They help mental health and anti-bullying charities in our area as well as supporting young carers to name a small few.

Working for Marcus – Loudmouth Theatre

Year 9 had a great morning spent with Loudmouth Theatre, watching a workshop titled ‘Working for Marcus’ today. An engaging session centred around child exploitation and how to spot signs of grooming with information about where to go for support. Pupils were blown away with the session and asked inquisitive questions to guide their understanding. Thank you Loudmouth!

Bloxwich Academy Remembrance celebrations

Pupils and staff at Bloxwich Academy honoured our very own remembrance service on Friday 10^th November to show our respects to those who have sacrificed for us. We were also honoured to share our parade this year with cadets from Wednesfield High school, and we are sure you agree the cadet Force at Bloxwich Academy and Wednesfield are role models for all.

Bloxwich Remembrance Parade

Bloxwich Academy pupils have done us proud! On a cold, wet Sunday morning, our Cadet Force showed honour, respect and integrity whilst representing the academy in the annual Bloxwich Remembrance parade alongside our community. Thank you to everyone involved and all those that commended their attributes, it was a beautiful remembrance service. Thank you to Marton Ambrus an alumni student for capturing superb images of the event.

Trip to College & School Leavers Careers Festival at NEC Birmingham

Bloxwich academy has once again proven in action its continuous effort in making students the “Best they can be”. On the 8^th of November 2023, students from Bloxwich’s 6^th form were picked to visit NEC in Birmingham for a national school & college leaver festival.

This is hosted only once this year and some 6^th formers had the opportunity to attend. It was indeed a lively and lovely festival with various universities displaying the courses they offer and the pathway to go with their knowledgeable staff, eager and prepared to give detailed information. Universities had their different stands which made it easier for students to walk around and inquire about their different field of interest.

Careers and organisations present were Healthcare (NHS), Aviation (Tui, Ryan Air, Easy Jet), Army, Navy, Airforce, Britain horse riding society, Apprenticeship, Engineering schools, Manufacturing companies (Rolls Royce), and universities amongst others.

6^th formers and college students were eager to get information as fun games with prices were on offer like spinning the wheel for varieties of chocolates (from Nestle), sunglasses (Given by Tui), books and more. There was also opportunity to physically experience this field in a way as there was VR for skydiving and a chance to do some rock climbing from army and more, Horse riding, laser tag, ambulances, planes and more.

Overall, it was a thrilling and educating experience for all the students as they were able to inquire and discover more about their field of interest.

Inspiring Women in STEM Assembly

In our recent school assembly, we had the privilege of addressing a crucial topic – challenging gender stereotypes in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). The event served as an eye-opening experience, encouraging all students to explore STEM fields without being bound by traditional gender biases.

The assembly featured personal stories of overcoming obstacles and excelling in STEM careers traditionally dominated by one gender; providing inspiration and insight into the vast opportunities that STEM offers, regardless of gender.

Students learned about the importance of breaking down stereotypes and embracing diversity in STEM. The assembly emphasized that STEM fields are open to everyone, regardless of gender, and highlighted the need for equal representation.

Students had the opportunity to ask questions and engage with the speaker, gaining valuable insights into pursuing STEM education and careers. Resources for mentorship programs, scholarships, and further support were also provided, ensuring that students have the tools to follow their passions in STEM.

This assembly was a significant step in promoting inclusivity, diversity, and gender equality in STEM at our school. We are committed to fostering an environment where all students, regardless of their gender, feel empowered to pursue their interests in these fields. We look forward to continuing these conversations and initiatives in the future, working together to create a more equitable and diverse STEM community.

Poppy Appeal – Cadets

Cadets from both Bloxwich Academy RAF and 196 Squadron Air Training Corps have been assisting the Royal British Legion Bloxwich Branch with this years annual Poppy collection. The Cadets professionalism, turnout and public engagement was recognised by an Asda mystery customer who had nothing but compliments for the teams out on the ground. Over the next two weekends, and on Armistice Sunday (12/11/23) the cadets are on the high street. Please come and visit them.

Halloween Spooktacular Bistro

The bistro ladies have done it again with a fabulous lunch time menu of Halloween treats today! Bloxwich Academy would like to wish everyone a Happy Halloween and half term break.

Salem Witch Trials

This week year 9 have completed their study of The Crucible with the task of figuring out which of their English teachers is a secret witch. They’ve used daily clues to narrow it down and today it was revealed! They’ve learnt all about false accusation, hysteria and that they should not believe everything they hear.

Let’s hope they don’t insist that Miss Cook is given the same punishment as john Proctor…
