Walsall Arts for All Event

Year 9 pupils took part in the Walsall Arts for All programme, and, along with other pupils, have been working with a professional artist to create an original artwork around the theme of community cohesion and celebrating cultures.

Fourteen Walsall schools have been involved in this programme, and the participating pupils from each school were invited to attend a private exhibition of all the artworks at Darlaston Town Hall, before they are installed back at their respective schools.

Pupils were excited to finally see their hard work showcased and were honoured to open the exhibition to the public.

Book Bags

Exciting news – Bloxwich Academy have purchased every child a book bag!

Your child has brought their book bag home with them and inside should be their reading book, reading diary, and their library book.

Your child’s reading bag should be brought into school every day to enable them to read with an adult in school.

As a school, we suggest that you hear your child read at home at least three times a week. After you have heard them read, please fill in their reading log and sign to say you have heard them read!

Unfortunately, if a book bag is lost an additional cost of £3.50 – will need to pay at our school’s reception for a replacement.

Lest We Forget

Bloxwich Academy’s annual service of remembrance was held at the secondary site on the 12th November 2021.

The whole school paraded for the first time since the start of the pandemic. The parade took its usual format which consisted of readings, the last post and God Save the Queen. Guests included year six from the primary school, an ex-student who now serves in the British Army, and personal friend of the Contingent Commander who is serving in the Corps of Royal Engineers. The cadets and their staff have worked hard for this moment and they see this as a trial run for the main parade in Bloxwich on Sunday 14th November 2021.

Please feel free to join them.

Moonbug-Nursery-Rhyme-Week

World Nursery Rhyme Week

Children in Early Years will be taking part in World Nursery Rhyme Week this month. We will be challenging children to participate in the ‘Rhyme a Day Challenge’ by singing nursery rhymes and taking part in supporting activities.

Nursery rhymes are excellent teaching tools and can help to develop:

  • Language and literacy skills
  • Numeracy skills
  • Social skills
  • Physical skills
  • Emotional skills – they are so much fun

All children in Nursery and Reception are asked to dress up on Monday 22nd November 2021 as their favourite Nursery Rhyme character. Please do not feel obliged to spend money on a costume. Home-made outfits are often the best. To help prepare your child for this experience you could sing the official rhymes of 2021 at home:

Or, use this link to watch the nursery rhyme videos. https://bit.ly/3Ezl87W

The book fair allowed pupils to browse and purchase titles from award-winning authors and see the range of genres and styles in writing. The fair as buzzing every day, with pupils eager to extend their book collection. Remember- reading at home is one of the best things you can possibly do!

Year 7 have spent their first half term studying gothic fiction and to celebrate, gothic the department dressed up as famous literary gothic characters and decorating their classrooms – a fantastic effort team English!

Supporting the British Heart Foundation

Jump Rope for Heart Event

On Friday 15th October, Bloxwich Academy Primary supported the British Heart Foundation by participating in the Jump Rope for Heart event. Children had great fun participating in a range of skipping activities with their class. Some children skipped on their own and tried a range of skipping tricks and skills. Some children skipped as a group using the large skipping ropes, which was a lot of fun to watch.

Schools and Academies up and down the country participated In the Jump Rope for Heart event to raise money for the British Heart Foundation. Before the British Heart Foundation existed, most babies with major or complex heart problems did not survive to their first birthday. However, research has helped change this, and now in the UK nine out of ten babies born with heart problems get to go to school.  The Jump Rope for Heart event help the British Heart Foundation continue to fund lifesaving research. Research that will help improve the lives of the estimated 50,000 children currently living with congenital heart disease.

World Mental Health Day

The theme for this year’s World Mental Health Day on 10th October is ‘mental health in an unequal world’, asking us to think about the issues that cause mental health inequality both locally and globally.

Stigma and discrimination towards those with mental health issues is one key reason for these inequalities.

Almost 9 out of 10 people with mental health problems say that the stigma surrounding mental health has a negative impact on their education, work and personal lives.

The stigma around mental health can make it more difficult for those having difficulties to seek help.

To raise awareness of World Mental Health at Bloxwich Academy, the pupils completed various form-time activities and the whole school took part in a virtual assembly presented by Sandra Vaughan, who is the chief executive of Black Country Mental Health. Sandra explained what Mental Health and the different forms of mental health as well as what the theme for this year called Unequal World meant to our pupils. The pupils asked a wide range of questions throughout the session, so they could improve their understanding of Mental Health. Our Academy, is following up this assembly by training peer supporters and we sold doughnuts at break time to raise money for Black Country Mental Health to help them continue their work in our local area.
