Sixth Form Football Academy Result Vs Sandwell

After a couple of weeks rest it was back to fixtures for the Sixth form Football Academy. This week we travelled to Sandwell WBA Academy.

The game started well and within 5 mins we had hit the target 3 times being unlucky not to score. Don't stop reading Miss Thompson, it gets better!

After 18 mins F Williams, who was playing like a young Paul Scholes, found space and slid K Perry through, who jinxed his way past 2 challenges and finished from distance with a curling shot into the near corner. A minute later K Perry turned provider by delivering a sumptuous cross which was headed in by M Oginni. He rose like a salmon and finished with venom.

HT 2-0

We found the game in the balance after 3 mins when the opposition scored. It now required determination, focus and an improvement in quality.

Our third goal had all three elements, F Williams again got on the ball and played a lovely threaded ball through to J Bloomer who showed a clean set of heels to his defender. Instead of going for goal himself he picked out K Perry on the far post who slid in to claim his second goal of the match, 3-1. F Williams again turned provider 10 mins later when he won a throw and with quick thinking he threw it over the defender on the halfway line, K Perry latched onto the ball with a clever run beyond, he composed himself and struck the ball on the half volley with the outside of his foot into the top corner giving the goalkeeper no chance. What a goal for K Perry to claim his hat trick, and no he doesn't get to keep the match ball!

With the game at 4-1 we turned the screw even more. K Perry delivered an in-swinging corner and K Ampofo, who had been moved into a right midfield role which is away from his normal defensive duties, reacted the quickest to put the ball in the back of the net with a neat finish. He celebrated with emphatic joy, see pics.

F Williams had yet another assist for M Kabba, who worked tirelessly upfront, 6-1. M Kabba was unlucky not to get a second goal after a slick attacking move as the goalkeeper half stopped his shot but K Perry was on hand to follow in and scored his 4th goal of the game!

FT  7-1!!

Man of the Match - F Williams

Hattrick hero (4 goals) - K Perry

Special mention to Miss Amy Potts for bringing a pump to inflate a flat tyre on the mini-bus, I was slightly concerned when people were passing me on the M6 and waving their arms at me. Thankyou Amy!

Field Training Day for Beacon & Bloxwich.

Today our two Contingents were involved in a field training day designed to train and then test our cadets in field craft activities.

All of the cadets worked together in groups made up of both contingents to encourage collaborative working, confidence and sharing of ideas. They then were put through their paces with a number of testing scenarios in which the designated commanders had to lead their teams. Many of the cadets commented on how much they had learnt and all wanted to know when the next day or camp would take place.

A big thank you to all of the staff who attended & supported the event.

Working for Marcus - Loudmouth Theatre

Year 9 had a great morning spent with Loudmouth Theatre, watching a workshop titled ‘Working for Marcus’ today. An engaging session centred around child exploitation and how to spot signs of grooming with information about where to go for support. Bloxwich Academy Remembrance celebrations

Pupils and staff at Bloxwich Academy honoured our very own remembrance service on Friday 10th November to show our respects to those who have sacrificed for us. We were also honoured to share our parade this year with cadets from Wednesfield High school, and we are sure you agree the cadet Force at Bloxwich Academy and Wednesfield are role models for all.

Trip to College & School Leavers Careers Festival at NEC Birmingham

Bloxwich academy has once again proven in action its continuous effort in making students the “Best they can be”. On the 8th of November 2023, students from Bloxwich’s 6th form were picked to visit NEC in Birmingham for a national school & college leaver festival.

This is hosted only once this year and some 6th formers had the opportunity to attend. It was indeed a lively and lovely festival with various universities displaying the courses they offer and the pathway to go with their knowledgeable staff, eager and prepared to give detailed information. Universities had their different stands which made it easier for students to walk around and inquire about their different field of interest.

Careers and organisations present were Healthcare (NHS), Aviation (Tui, Ryan Air, Easy Jet), Army, Navy, Airforce, Britain horse riding society, Apprenticeship, Engineering schools, Manufacturing companies (Rolls Royce), and universities amongst others.

6th formers and college students were eager to get information as fun games with prices were on offer like spinning the wheel for varieties of chocolates (from Nestle), sunglasses (Given by Tui), books and more. There was also opportunity to physically experience this field in a way as there was VR for skydiving and a chance to do some rock climbing from army and more, Horse riding, laser tag, ambulances, planes and more.

Overall, it was a thrilling and educating experience for all the students as they were able to inquire and discover more about their field of interest.

Inspiring Women in STEM Assembly

In our recent school assembly, we had the privilege of addressing a crucial topic - challenging gender stereotypes in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). The event served as an eye-opening experience, encouraging all students to explore STEM fields without being bound by traditional gender biases.

The assembly featured personal stories of overcoming obstacles and excelling in STEM careers traditionally dominated by one gender; providing inspiration and insight into the vast opportunities that STEM offers, regardless of gender.

Students learned about the importance of breaking down stereotypes and embracing diversity in STEM. The assembly emphasized that STEM fields are open to everyone, regardless of gender, and highlighted the need for equal representation.

Students had the opportunity to ask questions and engage with the speaker, gaining valuable insights into pursuing STEM education and careers. Resources for mentorship programs, scholarships, and further support were also provided, ensuring that students have the tools to follow their passions in STEM.

This assembly was a significant step in promoting inclusivity, diversity, and gender equality in STEM at our school. We are committed to fostering an environment where all students, regardless of their gender, feel empowered to pursue their interests in these fields. We look forward to continuing these conversations and initiatives in the future, working together to create a more equitable and diverse STEM community.
