Far-From-Home

Matrix ‘Far From Home’ – Turing 2023-24

Sweden, Italy, Peru

We are delighted to announce that, for the third year running, Matrix Academy Trust has had another successful Turing bid.

The Turing Scheme is the UK government’s programme to provide funding for international opportunities in education and training across the world. It supports Global Britain by providing an opportunity for UK organisations from the higher education, further education, vocational education and training and schools sectors to offer young people  life-changing experiences.

This year, pupils in Year 8 from across Matrix schools will be visiting Sweden. Year 10 will be exploring ancient history in Italy. Year 12 students will be travelling around the world to Peru.

We chose ‘Far From Home’ as the name of our 2023-24 Turing project because we are committed to promoting an international outlook with our pupils. For our young people to be successful, we need to do whatever we can to broaden their horizons – and one way of doing this is to take them ‘far from home’. We will be making sure the pupils who are selected to go on these visits will be those that will benefit most from them.

More information about these opportunities will be shared in September.

RBL-TEAM-3

The affiliation of Bloxwich Academy Combined Cadet Force and the Bloxwich Branch of the Royal British Legion

The Officer Commanding (OC), Flight Lieutenant Hall of Bloxwich Academy Combined Cadet Force (BA CCF) has been in contact with the Royal British legion Bloxwich Branch (RBLBB) and is delighted to announce that the school and the RBLBB have been affiliated.

This means that BA CCF and the wider school population can now be even more closely involved with the annual Poppy Collection and the Annual Service of Remembrance as the OC is the parade Marshall and committee member of RBLBB. This further strengthens the relationship from when BA CCF cadets have attended previously the parade. This affiliation will assist the school and the cadets in engaging in local community events, charity fundraising as well as supporting serving military personnel, military veterans and their families.

With the presence of the RBLBB in the school this will allow cadets, staff and students to be a member of the RBLBB and will give cadets and pupils access to charitable funds to help support activities like the Duke of Edinburgh scheme, Combined Cadet Force and possibly trips to enrich their learning journey and their wider life enrichment.

It is intended that a youth section of the Royal British Legion be set up, with the pupils having their own committee and running their own events.

Revolting Children

Magic was created this week with Bloxwich’s very own production of Revolting Children. It was an interactive show of energy, excitement, and drama, with a super talented cast who fought against the injustice of Trunchbull’s cruel regime. After a period of time without a school musical production, it certainly did not disappoint, and a well-deserved standing ovation from the audience summed up the quality production from our performing Arts staff and immensely talented pupils.

Thankfully, all the little maggots in the cast and audience managed to avoid the ‘Chokey’, but Miss Trunchball certainly gave a performance that will not be forgotten!

Well done to all, we cannot wait for the next production.

New Cadet Cohort – Field Craft

This week, our new year 7 cadets were taught about field manoeuvres and patrol lane training as part of their induction into CCF at Bloxwich Academy. The cadets were taught pairs fire and manoeuvre in a leapfrog formation. They have also been practicing drill every week. They have been studying the rank structure in the RAF and communication training of the phonetic alphabet. We have loved having our new cadets. Looking forward to welcoming them and their parents on the 19th July. Join us next week for drill and team sports!

Sports Day 2023

Reception & KS1 children participated in their sports day on Thursday 29th June. All children took part in the egg and spoon race, the obstacle race and the running race. Children then had the chance to sign up for the jumping/sack race. It was a lovely afternoon of activities and the children really enjoyed competing and earning points for their houses.

The children participated in field events during their PE lessons. They took part in javelin, speed bounce, standing long jump and the target throw. The children worked hard to be the best they can be.

KS2 children participated in their sports day on Friday 30th June. The weather in the morning was a little wet, but we managed to complete the afternoon of events without any disruptions from the rain thankfully.

All children took part in the obstacle and running race and then children had the option to sign up for the football dribbling race, the long distance run and the mixed relay. The support for the children from family and friends was amazing! So many people came to support the children and cheer them on. The children had a wonderful time from start to finish which made the afternoon very special.

Once all the results were added together from both sports days and all the field events, the overall results were as follows:

1st – Watt

2nd – Stephenson

3rd – Brindley

4th Telford
