We’re Going on a Bear Hunt

Since returning back to school after the holidays, Nursery pupils have started reading ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’.

Last week the children took a trip to the woodland area in school in the hope to sight a bear. The children found lots of leaves and sticks unfortunately, no sign of a bear this time. The children then took their sticks to the classroom where they are now exploring a range of materials including wood, fabric, wool, plastic and paper.

Children are beginning to describe the texture of the materials they have found using fabulous adjectives. Some adjectives used are bumpy, soft, hard, crunchy, smooth and fuzzy. Next week we will be using a range of materials to create the face of a bear.

We encourage parents to continue to discuss materials at home.

In Maths the children are also working hard to recognise colours, numbers and a variety of shapes. The children are working hard to recognise their name and are starting to form recognisable letters by writing their name too! Keep up the good work Nursery we are all proud of your achievements.

BA-Awards-Evening-2019---12

Awards Evening 2019

On Thursday 28th November Bloxwich Academy held its first celebratory Awards Evening.  The evening was an invite-only ceremony in recognition of the outstanding achievements and attributes of our pupils in the Academy.

It was with great difficulty that teachers tried to narrow down and select their nominations but those who won the awards were truly deserving of them.  The night was filled with music and dance performances that further showcased the many talented youngsters in the academy.  It was a heart-warming evening in which both teachers and parents felt immensely proud of our children’s successes.

Nativity-10

Early Years – Nativity

Yesterday Nursery and Reception performed their Christmas production ‘Away in a Manger.’ The play is the traditional story of the nativity, but from the perspective of the animals and in particular of Maurice the mule. The children performed as a variety of animals from the stable and they worked hard to practise 7 different songs including ‘Away in a Manger.’

Many of our Reception children also learnt their own lines and all children sang and practised the actions to all the songs.  Well done to all of the children for getting involved.

Sport

Sporting Update

The Autumn Term has been jam-packed with opportunities for all pupils to take part in high-quality PE lessons, clubs and tournaments. Children have enjoyed developing their fundamental skills through a variety of sports from Tag Rugby to Gymnastics. Year 6 children have also taken part in swimming lessons with all children reaching personal goals. Next term Year 5 will be starting their swimming unit.

All children in the school have also taken part in 2 different inter-house competitions. These competitions were great fun for all and gave children the chance to experience the thrill of competitive sport. Outside of the school day, 30% of our KS2 pupils have also participated in tournaments against other schools. This number will continue to rise as we strive to give the opportunity to all.  Our after school clubs continue to be in high demand with over 100 pupils choosing to stay active once work is over.

Children at Bloxwich Academy Primary are really developing a passion for sport and this will continue to grow throughout 2020 with lots of exciting opportunities to come.

Year 5 Farm Visit

Last week, 5RW travelled down to Wick Court farm in Gloucester. Once we arrived, we were given our first jobs straight away. Group 1 had to walk over 2 fields at 7pm to feed the cows! Over the course of the week, the children and staff all carried out different tasks on the farm: feeding the animals, picking plums, planting trees, cleaning out the stables and cooking food.

On the last day of the trip, the children had the opportunity to choose their activity for the afternoon. Some children went searching in the woods for materials to build dens, others chose to stay in the warm to weave and some decided to build crowns out of woodland objects. The staff at Wick Court were sad to see us go and told Mr Watters how fantastic and well behaved the children were.

5RW had a fantastic week on the farm and we can’t wait to hear about 5RB’s trip in March!

What an exciting week we’ve had. Posing with the horses this morning.

Today we’ve been cooking!

A beautiful frosty morning today on the farm! A busy day filled with lots of jobs!

Fun on the farm! Look at those happy faces! It’s been a rather muddy journey today!

Now we know why they said ankle wellies wouldn’t be okay!

This morning, one group has gone out bright and early to pet, feed and clean out the beautiful horses.
