Bloxwich Football Academy Result VS Amethyst

It was game we were looking forward to and a win would put us top of the league!

After beating Amethyst earlier on in the season they decided to turn up with an additional 5 first team players.

The game didn’t start too well and we found ourselves 2-0 down after 16 minutes. The players needed to roll up their sleeves and believe in their own ability.

As the game went on we grew into the game, holding shape and winning the ball through being compact and pressing the ball in 2’s and 3’s. We started to create opportunities with shots on goal. In the 30th minute, MKabba made a strong run down our right hand side crossing the ball in for ALane to attack. As he slid in 2 opposition players came into contact with him giving the referee (Mr Armstrong) no alternative but to give a penalty. K Perry stepped up and just like a young Harry Kane he whipped the ball into the bottom corner (see pics), 2-1.

Unfortunately, we didn’t defend well from a corner and conceded another before half time, 3-1. And with losing our Captain, JBloomer to injury, it was going to be a tough test in the second half.

But we came out quickly in the second half, winning first and second balls and pushing the opposition back. Some great decision making with defensive clearances, midfielders threading passes and forwards holding up the ball gave us control of the game. Half way through the half another reckless challenge gave us a free-kick from 40 yards out. As I was setting up players ready for a delivery into the box, F Williams had other ideas. With his wand of a left foot, he struck the ball with pace, swerve and dip and it flew into the top of the net!!! 3-2

We started to believe and pushed forward to get an equaliser but at times they countered with pace which forced our goalkeeper, AKielczewski, to make several important saves with his hands and legs in 1v1 situations. I even heard some of our spectators describing him as Superman!

With 10 mins left we had forced a second corner of which KPerry whipped in to an area full of bodies. The ball bounced and ricocheted of bodies left, right and centre. A Humphries muscled his way onto the ball and stabbed home from close range! 3-3!!

As we pushed for the winner the opposition got a break away goal and the game finished 4-3.

It was an enthralling game with several good performances from players who could have easily have been given Man of the Match. However it was our very own Superman, A Kielczewski, who got this accolade today.

Thanks to our sixth form supporters who came out in numbers and braved the cold.
