After a couple of weeks rest it was back to fixtures for the Sixth form Football Academy. This week we travelled to Sandwell WBA Academy.
The game started well and within 5 mins we had hit the target 3 times being unlucky not to score. Don’t stop reading Miss Thompson, it gets better!
After 18 mins F Williams, who was playing like a young Paul Scholes, found space and slid K Perry through, who jinxed his way past 2 challenges and finished from distance with a curling shot into the near corner. A minute later K Perry turned provider by delivering a sumptuous cross which was headed in by M Oginni. He rose like a salmon and finished with venom.
HT 2-0
We found the game in the balance after 3 mins when the opposition scored. It now required determination, focus and an improvement in quality.
Our third goal had all three elements, F Williams again got on the ball and played a lovely threaded ball through to J Bloomer who showed a clean set of heels to his defender. Instead of going for goal himself he picked out K Perry on the far post who slid in to claim his second goal of the match, 3-1. F Williams again turned provider 10 mins later when he won a throw and with quick thinking he threw it over the defender on the halfway line, K Perry latched onto the ball with a clever run beyond, he composed himself and struck the ball on the half volley with the outside of his foot into the top corner giving the goalkeeper no chance. What a goal for K Perry to claim his hat trick, and no he doesn’t get to keep the match ball!
With the game at 4-1 we turned the screw even more. K Perry delivered an in-swinging corner and K Ampofo, who had been moved into a right midfield role which is away from his normal defensive duties, reacted the quickest to put the ball in the back of the net with a neat finish. He celebrated with emphatic joy, see pics.
F Williams had yet another assist for M Kabba, who worked tirelessly upfront, 6-1. M Kabba was unlucky not to get a second goal after a slick attacking move as the goalkeeper half stopped his shot but K Perry was on hand to follow in and scored his 4th goal of the game!
FT 7-1!!
Man of the Match – F Williams
Hattrick hero (4 goals) – K Perry
Special mention to Miss Amy Potts for bringing a pump to inflate a flat tyre on the mini-bus, I was slightly concerned when people were passing me on the M6 and waving their arms at me. Thankyou Amy!
