Encyclis Rookery Power Station visit 2026

Our Year 9 pupils recently visited the Encyclis Rookery Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) in Bedfordshire for a fantastic day of learning about sustainability, waste management, and energy production.

The visit began at the Visitor Information Centre, where students explored a range of interactive exhibits and learned about the journey of waste, the importance of reducing and recycling materials, and how energy can be recovered from non-recyclable waste. The sessions provided valuable insight into the environmental challenges facing society and the innovative solutions being developed to address them.

Following the visitor centre activities, pupils were taken on a guided tour of the ERF itself. Seeing the facility in operation gave students a real-world understanding of the engineering and technology involved in transforming waste into energy. The tour also highlighted the wide range of careers available within the environmental, engineering, and energy sectors. The experience was both educational and inspiring, helping students connect classroom learning with practical applications and encouraging them to think about the role they can play in creating a more sustainable future.

We would like to thank everyone at Encyclis Rookery ERF for their warm welcome and for providing such an informative and engaging visit.
