Bloxwich Academy Year 9 students step Into the World of Crime Scene Investigation!
Our Year 9 students had an incredible opportunity this week to take part in a CSI Masterclass, putting their problem‑solving and detective skills to the test!
Fifteen students were divided into three investigative teams - Fleming, Holmes, and Luther each named after iconic detectives known for their sharp minds and attention to detail.
The challenge?
A mock murder investigation where students had to analyse evidence, interpret clues, and work together to crack the case. Using a range of materials including crime‑scene photographs, hair samples, blood samples, footprints, and suspect interviews, the teams were tasked with piecing together what happened and who was responsible.
Throughout the session, students:
- Applied their existing skills, knowledge, and experiences
- Learned new forensic techniques
- Identified team leaders, quiet thinkers, organisers, and creative problem‑solvers
- Carried out tests to determine blood types and match samples to suspects
- Examined photographic clues and interpreted evidence like real forensic experts
- Presented their findings as if giving expert witness testimony in court
Teamwork, communication, attention to detail, and individual work ethic were all assessed throughout the investigation. After reviewing the evidence and verifying their conclusions, each team presented their final verdict.
And yes — the “murderer” was identified!
The results were checked, compared, and validated to determine our overall winning team of detectives.
A fantastic session full of challenge, creativity, and real-world learning.
Well done to all our young investigators the future of forensic science is looking bright!
